The revitalization of seven Roman wells at the Uble site on Mount Dinara has been completed as part of a project implemented by the Government of Canton 10 (Herzeg-Bosnia Canton) in cooperation with UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Via Dinarica initiative. The project aimed to preserve natural resources and biodiversity, ensure water availability for livestock farmers, wildlife, and firefighters, and support the sustainable development of this mountain area.
As part of the project, seven traditional stone wells—an important element of Dinara's cultural heritage—were restored. Besides their historical value, these wells continue to play a vital role in sustaining life on the mountain. In addition, a new 6.5 km hiking trail was marked, starting in Donji Rujani and leading to the Uble locality, where the Roman wells are located. The new trail provides visitors with safer and easier access to this unique natural and cultural-historical site, while also expanding the White Trail of Via Dinarica and further enhancing Dinara's tourism offer.
The project has created better conditions for preserving traditional livestock farming, improving the effectiveness of firefighting services during the summer months, and promoting sustainable mountain tourism. It once again highlights the importance of investing in the protection of the natural and cultural heritage of the Dinaric Mountains.
